Chatham County deputy becomes president of NC SRO association

Herbie Stubbs, a deputy with the Chatham County Sheriff's Office, will be president of the North Carolina Association of School Resource Officers. The sheriff's office announced Stubbs as the association's president on Tuesday. He will serve as president for two years. Stubbs previously served a two-year term as vice president.Read More

Teen at the edge of suicide gives life another chance with help from Wake deputies

Two Wake County deputies are credited with stopping a teenager from committing suicide. It happened in late June at a bridge over the Neuse River. County gets $225K grant for life-saving opioid treatment in the jails

Across North Carolina, an average of five people a day lose their lives due to opioid overdose. Astonishingly, the opioid overdose mortality rate for former jail and prison inmates is over 40 times higher than that of people in the general population — and studies also found that those overdoses among former inmates were the highest during the first two weeks after the person was released from custody. Which is why the Guilford County Sheriff's Office is happy to see $225,000 in state grant money meant to grow an in-house jail program created to address that problem.Read More

Memorial triathlon honors fallen Wake County Deputy Ned Byrd, raises funds for K9 support

Dozens worked up a sweat Sunday to honor Ned Byrd, a Wake County Sheriff's deputy who was killed two years ago in the line of duty. Falling tree damages sheriff's office vehicle patrolling Bladen County road

While patrolling N.C. 87, a Bladen County Sheriff's Office vehicle was damaged by a falling tree Wednesday, Aug. 7, according to the BCSO. "Both Deputies walked away with no injuries however, the patrol car has a busted windshield. The two Deputies were able to save multiple vehicles from hitting the tree head on due to the obstructed area the tree fell in. Man arrested in Mount Airy after firing shots at deputies while serving his warrant, Surry County Sheriff's Office says

The Surry County Sheriff's Office has revealed what led up to a shooting Tuesday. Deputies said they attempted to serve a domestic violence warrant at a home on West Imogene Church Road in Mount Airy. The suspect, Roger Payne, barricaded himself inside and refused to cooperate.
